Basics of Key Word Mapping: What is Key Word Mapping?

Key word mapping may be something new that you are unfamiliar with, at this time. Many of those creating blogs, web pages and web sites on the internet are just learning the basics of web design.

“Where do I start?” an amateur web designer asks. He or she is probably aware that key words and key phrases found by spiders on search engines, lead traffic to his or her web site. “When a reader accesses my web site, then what?”

What is key word mapping?

Key word mapping on a blog, web page or web site enables a reader to find and access appropriate information on a web site. In other words, keywords used to create a structured web site map become navigational tools for the reader.

White Hat search engine optimization (SEO) leads to the appropriate use of key words for key word mapping, whereas Black Hat search engine optimization (SEO) is not effective, because the key word mapping is not appropriate.

Three basics of effective key word mapping include the following:

Structure:

“Chart before you start.”

Ideally, creating some kind of a structure using a chart, a plan or some other format is a good place to begin. Ask yourself what you intend to do with your web page. Where are heading with it? What do you hope to achieve? Is it an informational webpage? Is it purely thematic?

Choose your key words carefully and then, begin to place your key words in a structured format, making certain that the primary key mapping words are directional in nature. They should encourage your reader to go the direction on the web page that you want them to go.

The key words should reflect the topic of the web page, be reflected in the title of the page, as well as in other headings, sub-headings and the mega-content. These key words can be inter-linked, as well as linked to other web pages.

Organization:

“Keyword mapping for SEO helps you stay organized by creating an official record of keyword-to-page relationships.”

Organization is the key to any structure, including key word mapping.  Using primary and secondary groups of key mapping words in order of relevance, allows the reader to follow your chain of thought through your web page. Your reader can also see how the words relate to the topic of the web page, other headings and sub-headings, as well as to one another and links that lead to other pages.

Hierarchy:

Hierarchy of key word mapping allows a large amount of mega-content on your web page. It is up to you to decide if you will use key words with a hierarchical structure from the least to the greatest or the other way around. A lot depends upon your web page topic and what you intend to do with it.

For example, you might employ key word mapping that allows the basic introduction of a topic and leads into a more extensive analysis of it. On the other hand, you might begin with the analysis and break it down into its component parts.

The hierarchy is of content allows the reader to follow your chain of thought from start to finish.

Structure, organization and hierarchy, as the basics of key word mapping, will also make it easier for you to manage your blog, web page or web site, at a later date.
